Why Do Tides Happen in Oceans and Not Lakes?

Why Do Tides Happen in Oceans and Not Lakes?

You've probably heard that tides occur when the moon's gravity pushes the ocean up and away from the earth. But if that's true, why not raise the smallest waters?

First, the tides are not simply caused by the attraction of the moon as such. The moon is not spinning exactly around the earth. Both rotate around their common center of gravity, but as the Earth is much heavier, the Moon moves in large circles as the Earth moves in very small circles. It is this movement that "moves" the oceans of the Earth, which are all interconnected, the tides. The lakes would be very little affected, but they are extremely small compared to the oceans of the planet. They are not connected and therefore cannot move so well.

As Per Newton

As Newton says in his expression of gravitational acceleration, gravitational attraction is directly proportional to the product of the masses of two bodies that interact and inversely proportional to the square of the distance separating them (except the gravitational constant).
F = G.m1.m2 /r2
Considering that they are equidistant from the moon (thus excluding the square of r), the mass of the ocean is enormous compared to that of a lake, bath, or bucket, as its mass is less attractive. So it "size" that matters.

Theoretically, the lakes must experience the tides, but the tides are so small that even in the larger lakes the effect is masked by the flow of the river and the wind, and so on. There are tides in all waters, even in bathtubs, but they are so small that they are small. Even on Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes in North America, the tidal wave's minimal effect is surpassed by the influence of air pressure and the sepia phenomenon.
There are no tide for the Great Lakes, and sepia warnings are rarely published, as most cause a deviation of less than 50 cm. The effect of a squid is felt most strongly in the Strait of Mackinac between Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.
